[Phoronix] X.Org, Wayland, Open Gaming At FOSDEM 2012

The Free and Open-source software Developer's European Meeting (FOSDEM) is quickly approaching. The developer tracks/rooms for this huge open-source event have been announced.

Among the interesting developer rooms for the 2012 event in Brussels, Belgium is X.Org, Open Mobile Linux, Mozilla, open-source virtualization/cloud, cross-desktop, open-source game development, LibreOffice, micro-kernel-based operating systems, and BSD operating systems. The full list of FOSDEM 2012 developer rooms is listed at the end of this posting.

With the return of the X.Org developer room (it was shot down in 2011), that means I'll be back in Chimay-land for this great event. The X.Org developer room this time around is basically one day (the second day it will be taken over by OpenICC developers) and it's just not about X11 anymore, but also Wayland! Intel (with their big support of Wayland) has been wanting to have some Wayland talks at Linux events coming up in the near future.

I have also heard that Kristian H?gsberg, the leader of the Wayland project, is also expected to be speaking about Wayland at one of the main FOSDEM keynotes / main tracks.

The open-source game development track should be interesting too. I'll be in Brussels from 2 February through 6 February for any Phoronix readers (or Phoronix Test Suite / OpenBenchmarking.org users) looking to meet-up.

More information is available at FOSDEM.org. For those that are not familiar with FOSDEM, it's an annual open-source event that takes place for one weekend in February at a university in Brussels, Belgium. Attending the event is completely free and there's always a diverse selection of talks (one of the developer rooms this year is even for the ADA language) and is open to anyone. While it's a no-cost event, it's very well organized and among my favorite European Linux events. I've been covering X@FOSDEM events since 2008, see the FOSDEM postings for coverage from previous years.
