It?s nearly the 4th of July! Independence Day, picnics, parties and fireworks! FUN WOW! Your pet may not think so!

People enjoy fireworks displays, but they can be a source of fear for many animals.

Plan ahead for the upcoming holiday:

* Make sure your dog or cat always has somewhere to hide that is accessible to them in case they feel they need to retreat.

* Walk dogs when/where fireworks are not?likely to be set off.

* At nightfall close windows and curtains and put the radio or music on to mask and muffle the sound of fireworks.

* Never punish or fuss over your pet when it is scared, try to leave it alone, you can be in another room, but don?t pay overt attention to your pet, as this will only make things worse in the long run.

* Make sure your cat or dog is in a secure environment and can?t escape if they are frightened or alerted by an unsuspected noise.

* If your pets live outside, partly cover their cage or dog house with blankets so that one area is well sound-proofed. Make sure that your pet is still able to look out.
