National Employee Health and Fitness day

ARDMORE, OK - A group of texoma third graders got out of the classroom to get moving outside today.

Hospital officials hosted a hula hoop contest at Plainview's third grade class end of the year party called "Give Third Grade The Boot" bootcamp.

Plainview Intermediate School Principal Julie Altom said this year's school theme was "Plainview Strong" which focused on a healthy lifestyle.

Today is also National Employee Health and Fitness Day.

Mercy Memorial hospital officials said as part of today's health initiative, they wanted to reach out to the community.

"The hula hoops have been provided by Mercy Hospital today, they will actually be donating those with their health initiative and so they wanted to be a part of our activities and our boot camp today for these third graders," Altom said.

Mercy's wellness coordinator said teaching kids exercise can be fun is a great way to encourage health.
